An Introduction to Scientific Ocean Drilling
UK IODP workshop 2022

How Does Scientific Ocean Drilling Work
and What is it good for?

2nd - 3rd November 2022
National Oceanography Centre, Southampton

Scientific Ocean Drilling addresses fundamental questions about Earth’s climate, deep life, geodynamics and geohazards. A UK-IODP workshop will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of November 2022, to introduce participants to Scientific Ocean Drilling, how it works and how it can benefit their research. The workshop will include presentations from experienced scientists and experts from IODP and ECORD, as well as practical activities.

We encourage participation from all scientists based at UK research institutes who would like to learn about how their research could benefit from subseafloor sampling, including (but not limited to) PhD students and early career researchers in the fields of geology and microbiology.

NERC and UK IODP take equality, diversity and inclusion very seriously. We know that the quality of research and innovation improves the more we bring together people from different backgrounds. We encourage people from all backgrounds, beliefs and experiences to attend this workshop.

Further information about the programme, registration and bursaries will be circulated in August. To make sure you don’t miss out on future announcements please sign up to the UK IODP mailing list using the button at the bottom of this page.
